ok, i have a chance to get an Advance model # 71A5571-001 ballast...it is supposed to run 1 175w MH. is there anything i need for this to work? cap? or can i just get a socket, reflector, blub, wire and have a MH? i don't wanna buy it and have to get something else.

also, what is a good price for this?

thanks

There will be a wiring diagram printed on the top of the ballast.

In any event, strictly speaking, the word "ballast" means just the "choke". If this is what you mean then my guess is that you would need a capacitor and maybe an ignitor (if you plan to use HQI bulbs) too.

A gear-tray is all the bits mounted on a piece of metal.

A choke and a capacitor is probably all you need, aka what many people call a "ballast". I can only say "probably" because it depends whether the bulb has a built-in ignitor - 99.999% of single ended bulbs do.

If you ask for a "ballast" where I live you'll be given just the choke. If you ask for a gear-tray then you'll get the bits you need are mounted on a small piece of sheet metal - assuming you're talking to a lighting wholesaler and not a retail shop.

i have the capacitor and ballast...that should be all i need besides the given (reflector, blub, etc.)

right? just want to make sure this ballast will work

i would be interested in trading this 250w for a 150w. i have a nano and 250w just is TOO much. 150w is more my limit

thanks

Ack, well I've looked at Advantage's web site.

71A557X-001 is a ballast for a 150/175W MH

The -001 means "ballast replacement kit with oil filled capacitor" - so I guess that's all the bits you need.
