hard to tell as it's not a great pic. i've had a small aiptasia problem in the past but my trusty peppermints took care of it before it got out of hand. my aips never colonized like that but my yellow polyps do.

I can swear; they are aiptasia, look at those tiny aiptasias attached in the back glass, I've never seen yellow pollyps like that. It's just my perception.

If it is growing well and you think you are the best reefer on the block... they are Aptasia. If you can barely get them to sprout and it costs a lot of money to do so, they are something else...

Hmm best way to know if they are aiptasia would be to try to touch one.. if it completly disapears then it can be aiptasia, yellow polyps might close but will stay there. My two cents.

Good job, Goldmoon! Touching them is truly the test. Why didn't I think of that?

I can see both, the ones on the rock on the left look like aiptasia, if you look real close to the ones in the middle you can barely make out that little yellow button in the center of the polyp, aiptasia just has a hole there.
but my guess is just as good as anyone elses.

Button polyps and yellow polyps are not the same thing. Button polyps are zooanthids, yellow anemones are colonial anemonies, aptasia are mostly solitary non motile anemonies with a powerful sting. Those look more like yellow polyps to me, but my peppermint shrimp likes both

It ate both my aptasias and my yellow polyps.

I think theyre yellow polyps, but its a tough call.

I've seen Jeff's get in 20-30 rocks of yellow polyps that were all a translucent dark yellow color (almost brown) before. It depends where theyre collected, I suppose.

Most aiptasia I've seen have longer, stringier tentacles, although I know there are alot of types of pest anemones we call "aiptasia". I also have never seen aiptasia crowd like that, as others said above.

Is the "mouth" raised or does it fold in? I agree touching them is a good way to test. Polyps close differently.

IME, yellow polyps can be pretty irritating to other corals in their own right, so I would watch it either way.

Hey Jemichaeliv, did you touch them already? I want to know what they are, I bet $5 that they are aiptasias (I hope no, otherwise you are in trouble), by the way there is a lot of LFS where you can buy aiptasia!!! , I hate those places, they know what they are and they sell them like "sea anemones" (wich is true) for $5 each.
