I just got a used tank and it came with a bunch of items. One of them was an ozone control unit. I have little knowledge on these and was wondering if people still use them. Also, what equipment is needed?
you can sometimes pump ozone into your skimmer instead of a reactor. make sure you start low dosage because ozone is toxic when you use too much. if you can smell it you are using too much.
Pumping ozone into a skimmer is asking for trouble. It is difficult to stop ozonated air from entering the room when done that way. Although some skimmers have a place for cabon it is very ineffective because the carbon is dry. My method of reactor to carbon(wet carbon) and then secondary carbon(wet) has served me very well for about 8 years. just make sure your probe is clean (thats what she said)
Ozone is fine in a skimmer, just dont overdose.
O3 (ozone) is very unstable and will react with any organic compound in the water. Give us the size of your tank and the number of mg/h of the ozone unit. Using 15 mg/h in a 90 gal tank (skimmer) will be safe. (very safe, even with out carbon)
