i have no idea what is going on. i've had my aquasafe 6 stage unit up and running for more than a year and it just stopped working. i changed the resin and three pre filters a couple months ago. the only thing i havent changed is the membrane. could that be the problem?? i thought membranes last like 5-6 yrs.

Jon,

My brother in law is having the same problem with his filter. Same model, I think. It looks as if the problem is with the fitting going into the the membrane. I don't know what it's called but is some kind of check valve type fitting; I know there is some kinda of metal spring thing in it. When we took it apart we couldn't blow through either side.

Does anyone know what this fitting is called and where to get a replacement?

Steven

I think those ebay units use a check valve in the permeate port that is INSIDE the elbow fitting. Sometimes these go bad. We have replacements on the web site.

Better yet, go with a 1/8" MPT x 1/4" quick connect with a separate quick connect check valve.

If the problem is slow production, the most common cause is cold water temperature or low pressure. Often the low pressure is caused by clogged prefilters. What is your water pressure?

When an RO membrane goes bad typically you'll see a worsening rejection rate, and/or a worsening prooduction ("flux").

What is the tds of your tap water? Permeate? DI water?

i havent had time to disconnect the ro unit and check whats going on because i've been doing some other projects.

i change the three prefilters not too long ago but i'll check the water presure straight from the pipes, after the three stage, after the ro membrane, after the resin and maybe i'll find the root cause.

i'll also check the tds

thanks fry. i'll let you know if i need it

Jon ,,,i just had the same problem ..changed everthing but the membrane ,so i changed it with a new one i had and water was flowing ,

Only thing i can think of ,is that the membrane got a bit dry and expanded a bit .after all the water is 40Deg ..and draining the water exposes it to air ,,this is just a guess ,but after changing my membrane it worked

Not sure about the check valve ,i had 2 of them and changed it ,nothing happened.I usually have spares of eveything for the just in case

Also remember the cold water can F23k thing up quick ,its the cause of bigger problems then membranes ..icey weathers can crack a 20"main line underground :D
