look almost like string...definitely anchored and all over my sand...dark brown to black in color and seem to go through the sand...did that make any sense?...this is in my Nano 12 gal that has 0 ammon, 0 nitrite, and almost 0 nitrate...i use r/o water...should i be worried?

Not sure but 2 possibilities are critters burrowing next to the face of your tank. I have as lot along my 55.
The other possibility is worms that live in the sand bed.
If they are worms, the worm will come out and stick above the sand to feed like a duster.
I think they feed at night.
I don't know much about the worms so I'll just let someone else detail it.
If nothing else, You just got bumped to the top!

Spagetti worms spead their "tentacles" over the sand and are pretty easy to ID from this. Its hard to tell from the pic but IMO everyone gets these, they are area where worms of any sort slowly moved through the wet sand. This leaves a trail behind which fills in with sand bed fuana. If they are making tubes sticking up from the sand this is something actuall making a tube, some sort of worm. I have these every now and then in my 4" sand bed but with my heavy water turbulance and good sand turnover they rarly stay long.
