I can think of two options here...1) Run the water level in your sump high. I wouldn't do this one since any power outage might overflow it. 2) Fabricate a base to stand the skimmer on in the sump, extend the tube your powerhead attaches to so it is fully submerged again, and (optional) extend the return with a plastic flap to reduce the splash from the skimmer return. Depending on your sump you could also build a brace to hold it upright in the sump instead of the stand. I've seen this done with backpacks essentially turning them into the sr's...I'm sure this could be done to the Remora's as well

Good luck

Well not sure about your skimmer but i own a Aquamedic Turbo flotor 1000 which is primarily a hang-on skimmer, but has no problems being submerged into a sump either (if it was water tight from inside out, it should work the other way too). But in regards to lengthening the pipe from the powerhead bad idea imo, i done this to my skimmer and it didnt skim a 10th as well, and i only made it about 2" longer, the shorter the pipe the better

I don't think legthening the pipe will create any adverse conditions for this particular skimmer. Keep in mind that the remora is not a venturi or traditional downdraft skimmer so "chopped" air will not be pumped up the inlet pipe. Where I can see this increasing the bubble size, concentration, or quality in lets say a BakPak, the remora works in a completely different way. Since it works with a spray injection the only adverse condition I can think of would be a slight increase in head pressure from pumping the water higher up. This could easily be fixed with the next size larger pump.

I'm about to pack up the old cannister filter and go the way of the sump. Problem is, I recently bought an Aqua C Remora (hang-on), and I'm not too psyched to buy another skimmer just for the sump. Any suggestions on how to modify it so I can use it below?
