This little guy is so cool to watch. He is about 2 1/2" long. He eats all of the time. Does anyone know about how long it will be until he has his adult patterns??

Hey he is a cute little guy! I am not exactly sure how long myself. But nice pic, what other fish do you have in there with him?

The other fish in the tank are:

1 - Niger trigger
1 - Purple tang
6 - Green chromis
1 - bicolor angel
1 - flame angel

The tank is a 180 (72 x 24 x 24)with a 100 g. sump.

First of all, COOL little clown triggerfish! I don't know when exactly the subtle color change happens, but in the aquarium they grow to about 10 inches, and in the wild, they grow to 20 inches. When it gets bigger, it could eat your smaller fish such as green chromis.

They can do their color change at pretty much anytime. I think in the wild they do it in their first year or two, they will at least begin to change from birth on. They generally start with a little more orange coloration, and then it turns more yellow, then the dots will migrate. It can take years and years if your conditions are not right, or it may never happen at all. Most likely, you will see the dots starting to migrate towards his stomach in the next few months, more of a gradual clearing near the middle of his body.

Where in Oklahoma are you? I'm in Durant....the southeastern part of the state. :)

And the fish is really cute, how big is your tank? Can't wait until I have a job that will allow me to upgrade to a large tank.

The tank is 180 gallons with another 100 gallons in the sump. The store is in Oklahoma City. It's called "The Reef Shop." They have great prices on fish and corals, and are not the "typical" store. They are really nice people that really want you to do well with your tank. I traded three xenia frags for the clown trigger. Here is a link to the store.

Cool trigger. I just got one about a week ago. He's only about 1 inch but looks exactly like the one in your pic.
What are you feeding yours?
Right now I'm feeding brine and blood worms but I'm planning to get some crab meat to chop up.
Anyone know common places to get raw urchin?

I'm basically feeding the same. The thing is a PIG!! I also put dried seaweed in for my purple tang and the clown literally shreds it. Also, I have been adding live ghost shrimp occasionally. The other day I added a couple of guppies for my Niger and the clown ate one basically half his size. I couldn't believe it.

Cool, I'm gonna have to start expanding the variety.

I was reading an article on the net awhile back. Some guy was feeding his clown trigger everything from potato salad to chicken.
I think I'll start with the seaweed and crab though.

I would guess it's less than 3 months old. I don't remember when they spawn, but they grow fairly quickly. You can figure out it's age by figuring out when they spawn, and that'll be a pretty good guess as to how old it is.
