I came home to something really strange in my tank this evening. I have 2 types of GSP, neither have the white center in the polyps. Anyway, the smaller of the 2 closed up and started discharging little pink egg looking things from where the polyps come out. There is several hundred. Are these eggs? Does this happen often? I read in Eric Bornemans that GSP can be Hermaphrodites. What is likely to happen to all these things? I don't have a Dig. camera, but I did take some pics with a 35mm so if they come out I will try to post them for all to see. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I wonder if they are. I don't think gsp reproduce that way, but I would like to hear if someone knows for sure

Wow! Amazing! The exact same thing happened to some star polyps of mine. I was sure some animal had deposited them there. I posted on this and other boards and nobody knew where they came from or what they were.

The "eggs" disappeared after a week or so without a trace or anything hatching from them.

Please keep and eye on them and let us know. I for one am curious...

Yes, exactly. I think all the "eggs" were consumed by eager mouths. GSP don't need to spawn to be prolific IME.

Pez,

Your absolutely right, GSP doesn't need to spawn to be prolific. But it is a sure sign that your tank is very healthy if you have corals that are spawning sexually. Nice pics. Congratulations on
having such healthy tanks, Marco and Pez.
