you don't glue an anenome down. It will wander until it finds a spot that it finds suitable. It needs a crevice for its foot to be dark in and a lot of light for the top. What kind of lighting do you have? You can try and put a piece of pvc in the sand for it to sit in and it might like it i have heard people using this method but the anenome will find a good spot if there is one. Sorry about your loss

brandon, you are supposed to use glue to put things together, not to sniff it, cya.

brandon, Yellowboy is correct. An anemone will go to wherever it is happy. Sometimes once it finds that place it will stay there indefinitely. Other times it can stay there for months or years, and then move due to changes in lighting or current. I have two Bubble Tip anemones, one of which is a tank raised split from the original.

Based on your post and the fact that you believed that you could "glue your anemone" tells me you should do more research on the livestock you wish to keep before purchasing. I recommend that you dont keep any further anemones until you do more research on them. While I'm sorry for your loss, I do think it's important that people realize these are living animals and deserve the best possible care.

Hi Brandon.

Did you determine WHY the first one died before you got another one? If not, please PLEASE ask questions before buying another one of *anything* that doesn't make it, before buying more, and better still, PLEASE ask questions BEFORE buying.

Having said that, you have an anemone now, so let's try to help you keep this one alive.

FIRST of all, if you have any powerheads or intakes that do not have sponge prefilters on them....COVER them with foam ASAP. More anemones die from getting sucked into filtration or circulation devices than probably anything else....despite warnings to take simple measures to prevent it. This animal will wander around until it finds a suitable place that gives it proper light, and proper water flow, and depending what type of anemone it is, it might bury its foot in a crevice or in the sand. Do not interfere with it, unless it's in harm's way. Anemone-proof your tank as I mentioned by covering intakes.

Next, you need good lighting. Tell us about what kind of lighting you have, wattage, type, etc.

Also, it's recommended that you feed the anemone with meaty foods, at least once per week, more if your lighting isn't up to par. Chunks of squid, clams, silversides, etc. that have been thawed and (optionally) soaked in vitamins such as Zoecon or Selcon are good choices.

Hope this helps.

Just to clarify - when you see posts on gluing or rubber banding, they are talking about the mushroom anemones. Some people use netting to hold the mushroom to the rock until it attaches. Many methods. A different animal.

Anemones differ by species on where they like to settle in the tank. As mentioned they somes times go on a "walk about." Recently had a big carpet anemone inspect the whole tank and settle back in the same postion it started in. Go figure!

PLEASE make sure you have prefilters for those powerheads....PLEASE!!!

I don't want to read another post next week that this anemone got sucked in and liquefied.

Did I mention you need some foam prefilters for those powerheads?

OK I'll stop obsessing now...

brandon, curious how you got 640 watts of light from your IceCap660? Or was it a typo and you mean 440?

I regardless of the typo, I sucessfully keep two bubble tip anemones under 440 watts of VHO as well. Like Jenn has mentioned, once you determine the cause of the first one's demise, and correct that problem, you should be ok to raise another.

i doubt 2 power heads will provide good water flow as well, unless you have a mighty strong sump pump returning 2 or 3 thousand GPH.

I also have a 125 gallon tank and i have a total of 2,900 gph turnover in the tank which by some is a little bit in the slow side.
