What do you guys think is the best anemone fof the perc? I am really new in the reefing hobby, and would like to here people here think. Btw I like the percula because of smaller size, and colouration. They seem to be very hardy, and I am wondering if I should get a pair or have them singly? Will the clown be really lonely if I just put him by himself?

hi circa, i believe the best host for a perc is the magnifica anemone, however this particular anemone is nearly impossible to keep in captivity. Next best suit will be bubble tips.

Most will do to be honest. I bought an anemone that was not the "best host". About a week being in the tank I saw my true perc's chillin in the anemone.

If you get a young perc/ juv. then you may have to wait 4-6 months before it will accept/ use anenome. (at least that is what happened to me with a true perc and a long tent.) It wasn't until the 5th month that it finally went in.

Hi Circa,

What jumped out at me in your question is that you are really new to the hobby. Welcome

To answer your question, an anemone might not be appropriate for YOU...YET. Tell us about your tank, how long it's been up and running and what kind of lighting you have.

As was mentioned, E. Quadricolor (Bubble Tip) is the most suitable for the home aquarium, but it's hit and miss as to whether Perculas will take to them. They prefer Carpet anemones, H. magnifica, H. haddoni (sp?) but these are more challenging, and are often found to eat other fish in the tank, and so they are more suited to advanced hobbyists with dedicated tanks for them and their clownfish.

Before you make your selection, please read up as much as you can. Contrary to what you may be told, they aren't "easy to keep", but if you provide the right conditions, with E. Quad you can be rewarded with them propagating themselves by splitting (fission) in your tank.

Good luck on your journey!

Jenn
