Well compared to the blueness of the 10K Coraldeaths, yes they are somewhat yellow/green and is somewhat normal for "German" 10K's

The bottom tank has a 250W 10K made in Belgium (bulb is from Hamilton Tech) the color has a slight green cast but is otherwise a nice white and colors really pop when you add just a touch of blue. And yes they do whiten up a bit with age, however also make sure that they aren't excessively cooled, a fan blowing straight on the bulb can cause them to run a shade yellower.

Mine were such a shock I returned them. I am going to try the Aqualines based on an article in the 2002 annual.

Mine were a horrid yellow.

Ok...I dumped one of my 175's on my 180 and put 2 250 watt in its place. I got the Ushio 250 watt 10K's. My other 2 are Coralife 175 watt 10K's. The Ushio's seem very yellow/greenish. I heard that they will whiten up some after they burn for a while like a week or two. Is this correct if anyone knows?

If you have one, what was the country of origin? The Hamilton 10K's are Belgium, possibly AB then in manufacture.

FWIW, the only manufacturer of HID bulbs in Belgium that I know of is Philips Lighting NV in Turnhout, which is not a million miles from Philips HQ in Eindhoven (which confusingly enough is in the Netherlands).

Now, assuming that these bulbs are the ones (known as 14KK or maybe 11700K in Europe I believe), the interesting thing about them is that most (all??) Philips MH bulbs are a pig to run off the average ballast so my lighting supplier tells me. Philips bulbs like Philips ballasts for some reason.

Sooooo, if these are indeed one and the same, it may be worth trying the "proper" ballasts for improved life and colour rendition.

Sorry about the if's, but's, and maybe's but I'm trying to piece together several "facts" together to make a some sense out of this.

The 10k Coralife are very blue and very dim. My LFS has the 175w version and they suck. Horrible PAR. I wouldn't recommend them for SPS, clams, or anemones.

The 175W 14K Belgian bulb is sold here in the US with some regularity, however these are 250W 10K bulbs and have a color that one would associate with a 10K 'German'. The 175W 14K Belgian bulb runs just fine on a normal MH ballast and is a bluewhite, not monochromatic like the Coraldeath, but not as white as a 'German'

I have to agree with Mick on the Coralifes. They do suck. The Ushio's have whitened up significantly in the past few days. Very nice and I wanna get them in 175's if I can to replace the "Coraldeaths" as he eloquently put it..lol
