mangroves??

Can someone explain to me why they are a important part of a refugium, what purpose do they play?

I think they are used to reduce nitrates.

I have them growing in my refugium, I dont know how useful they are. Mine grow about 6 leaves and 2 inches a year. i think they are more a novelty for us to watch. when our friends come over we can say "look at this in my refugium a mangrove tree" WOW!

the roots provide more surface area for criters to reside .. also they are beneficial in nutirent export

Good for nutrient export...both nitrates and phosphates. Can be used in conjunction with macroalgae.
