I want to setup my tank soon. I wanted to get southdown sand but I live in Wisconsin and I can't get my hands on any. So my question is what sand should I get? Looking for a good substitute to Southdown. Thanks for any help, Jared.
Hello,
Since I cant get southdown in the south, I used Caribsea oolitic sugar size mixed with one quarter special reef grade, This combo seems to be working well for me... HTH
i use carriba sea agronite sand which i then seed with live sand i purchase at a local dealer from one of his reefs for about $4.00 a pound i used 5 lbs to seed my 37 gallon tank and it cycled amazingly fast. with this method you get the benefit of live oraganism from the dealers reef without the high cost of live sand
