I had a green star polyp on a piece of fairly flat live rock. About four days ago I woke up and it was upside down on the top of my sand. It fell about 1 foot down in he water on top of all the tubes. Im guessing my sea urchin wegged it out of place because it was about 3 inches from it when I put it back. The polyps havent come otu ever since this has happened and it has been four days now. Does anyone think I should leave it in there for about four more days. DO see if it is still ticken.

I just got a new colony of GSP's and follishly left a pencil urchin the same tank, he scraped about a quarter of the colony off and ate it, I immediately took him out but now about half of the colony is grey and much smaller than usual the other half is fully open and normal what do you think of this behavior? Thanks...

Derek,

I had a cowry munch my GSP several times. They stayed closed for close to a week then they opened up like nothing ever happened.

Kip,
Place the GSP's in an area of moderate flow and keep waiting. I have had my GSP's withdraw for a couple of days to express their displeasure.

I doubt the colony is dead. Pretty hardy specie. I recommend reposition the colony to receive more light & moderate to strong current. It is normal for GSP to not come out for a couple of days after shock.

To tell if the colony is dead, touch it, if the colony is flaking off, It's DEAD.

doubt it's dead. i had one colony that i had to pick up off the sand bed daily until i glued it down.
2 weeks ago i took a colony that was growing off the rock into little tubes and i cut them off and while they were out of the water i glued them back down. i wasn't very gentle or very fast, but they came back after a fews days.
patience
