Hi all,
Thought I'd let you all know the specs for the tank I'm setting up, and then pose a question or two.
Tank: 55 gallon
Live rock: 90 lbs. Fiji
Sand: 55lbs. live, supplemented wite Southdown
Lighting: 440 watts of VHO(1 daylight, 1 50/50, 2 Super Acitinic)
Circulation: two Powersweep powerheads

I'm planning on putting a sump with a hang-on overflow. I want to partition it out so I have an entry chamber, a middle area with some live sand and algae, and an exit chamber.
I would like to get a skimmer that will allow me to upgrade to a 120 gallon in the future. I would also like to plumb it like p.48 in Tullock's 'Natural Reef aquarium'. I like the idea of using the same pump for return and feeding the skimmer. Any suggestions on a skimmer that would allow this, and the best pump to drive it. There will be about 5 ft. of return distance to the tank.
I can't say that money isn't an object, but I would rather save a little longer and get it right.
All input will be considered and greatly appreciated,
Whitey

PS: If anyone has photos of their plumbing posted, I'd love the URL. Also, if anyone has DIY hang-on overflow plans. I love DIY projects.

Whitey,

Did you buy the tank yet? I have a 55 FO. The problem with a 55 is it is only 12 inches deep. Not a lot of space to do much aquascaping.

90 pounds of LR is a pretty hefty amount for a 55, too.

This post is not intended as a flame, I am only trying to point out a couple of things for you.

I have Tullock's book at home. Let me check it out and get back to you.
