How tall is your stand ?
How tall is your tank?
I plan on building a custom stand for my 72 BF. I plan on making it somewhat higher than the one I bought. I'm going to try to get away from the bending down to see inside, yet not too high so it still looks good when seated..
Thanks for any input..

I built my own. Its 30" high. A standard 55g sits on it. High enough to see easily standing or sitting and still low enough I can get inside the tank with a step stool.

I custom built the stand to be 42" tall. The 150G stood 30" high. 42 + 30 = 72". This way, I can see all the tank from top to bottom with ease (I hate bending over to look for critters down bottom)...

Just make it tall enough to fit what ever you plan to put under it. My 180 sits 44" built into a wall in my family room. I have a large skimmer 34" tall in my sump which is a 135. I also have a Korallin 3002 calc reactor it's fairly tall too. I read somewhere that it is a good idea to elevate your sump a few inches from the floor for siphoning. Just plan it out good before you build it. Mine is a little tall when you have to get into it but it looks great in the wall.

My 150 stand is 42" tall and the tank is 24" tall. The hood is 13" for a total of 79". Yes, I have a 3 step ladder so I can work in the tank, but I have a magnet for the day to day cleaning.

My prop tank stand is 36" tall and the tank is 16" and the hood is 12".

I like tall stands not only for viewing ease, but you can get equipment in and out easier.

My stand is 36" tall for my 120g reef. I also had the canopy designed to be taller thatn regular as well. it gives me more room to work, more room for equipment, etc.

I made my stand 37.25" tall for my 180. This gave me 36" inside the stand, yet isn't so tall that I need a step ladder to work on it. I'm really pleased with the sizing. It seems perfect for viewing too.

for my 180, it is 40" tall. Since the tank is 24" tall, the overall height is 64"- the top of the tank is at eye level. This makes the tank harder to service, but gives me much more room under the stand, and makes the tank look bigger (IMO)

Stand I built is 24", I wanted to keep it shorter as I'm in earthquake country so my strategy was to keep the center of gravity low. Now that its all setup I can see it would take quite an earthquake to knock the tank over. In a quake that big, the real concern is the house falling on the tank.
It has been a pain with a stand so short as it limits what you can put under it. Skimmer, Sump, room to curl up.
