Here's the scoop. I have a bubble tip anemone in my tank that is hosting a maroon clown. About a month ago, it shrunk up into almost nothing. It has no tentacles out or anything. (It's not dividing itself.) So, I decided to buy a new anemone for the clownfish....got a long tentacle. This morning, the stub of the bubble-tip is showing a few VERY tiny tentacles poking out from the side, so I don't think it's dead. The maroon won't leave his old one for the new one. Any advice??? Would taking out the old anemone help him to accept the long tentacle? Should I wait and see if it grows back??? Thanks.....

You seem kinda urgent about this, so forgive me if I'm wrong in thinking that you think the clown NEEDS an anemone. He doesn't.

Well true, but now i have an anemone with no clownfish. I know that it doesn't need a clown, but it would be nice.

It can take days, weeks or months for the anemonenfish to accept the new host. Patience, grasshopper.

not trying to steal the thread but- What is a good alternative host besides an anemone for a percula clown? Im doing a soft coral tank, and wondering what I should incorporate to make my percula happy.

I think Ernie is on...

I have had an Ocellaris for almost a year and it just now snuggling up to my leather as an alternative host. They don't need an anemone and even when one is present it may not "take" to it right away.
