I've just recently ordered mine after much research (but I am a newbie here). I found the cheapest MH pendant at Hamilton - www.hamiltontechnology.com/shop/index.cgi?task=show&cat=Pendant

I chose the 12k bulb to get some blues, but they recommend the 10k bulb for some reasons, including more stable light, etc. Marine Depot actuallt had a cheaper price for Hamilton's stuff, but I went back and forth with them, and after finding out that Marine depot would have to order from Hamilton, I coaxed the folks over at Hamilton (ask for Luis) to meet Marinedepot.com 's price, including shipping. If you are so inclined, you can DIY a pendant for much less money than you can buy one. Other than that, check out the hydroponics stores - they usually have the cheapest MH fixture prices. You will need a better lamp though.

For lamps, generally speaking, as the color temperature goes up, so does the cost. Except for the 12KK lamps. The Iwasaki lamps offer the best PAR/watt and the AB or Ushio 10KK lamps offer some of the best color. BUT, it does depend on who you talk to and what YOU are looking for.

I'm not sure if Hamilton Technology www.hamiltontechnology.com is the cheapest, but they do have exceptional customer service IMO. Yesterday they replaced my VHO balast under warranty eventhough the warranty just ran out. And they did it while I waited. Nice people!
