One year old 24G "Eclipse" reef tank with softies, shrooms and 2 montipora frgs.
Everything was fine untill about a month ago a redish-brown spot developed on a well established LR with shrooms. The spot appeared on other recently split or introduced rocks(for propagation purposes). It left alone the already mature rocks. Is not the red slime.Lately it spread more and more. The corals are relatively fine, but the damn thing spreads.
I can think of 2 things:
1- one PH might have corroding shaft(axle)and releasing iron that rusts?
2- Kelvin problems with light?
Fortunately(!?) it can be brushed off the rocks,so that eases the things a bit.
What other I noticed,is that it loses color when lights are off. When the lights came on,things looked so clean(I could still barely notice it,but was clear, like invisible) and gradually turned into red-br.It even deposited on the caluerpa.
The two definite things are:it comes (and spreads) from the return jet and is photosensitive.
On the weekend I'll take out the P heads to clean and check the shafts.
I have the original Eclipse filter with no biowheel,an Aquaclear quick filter and small pump.
Lights:6W/G 4 fluorescent strips:4100,6700,18000K and the blue one has N/A K.
It might be the 4100K too low and be the couse of the algae?
Any ideas are wellcome.
Thanks FM
