What is the real difference about a ro di units and a water filter that you can buy at home depot. I wanted to know if they do the same thing?

The water filter that attach's to your faucet helps make your water taste better, and removes some sediment and certain parasites. An RO system purifies your water by removing sediment, chlorine, organic compounds, minerals, nitrates, phosphates, silicates, etc, etc.

If you're referring to a water softener from HD (like a Cullgan) it just acts to minerals in your water so your soap actually lathers (very simplified explanation).

If the water is for your SW tank, RO RO/DI is the water you want.
