I am looking for a 120-180 gal. reef-ready glass tank in Los Angeles area and am wondering what's a good place to shop? I like acrylic tank's light weight but I have the impression of them being easily scratched. How do you clean coralline off of those acrylic tanks anyway?

Thanks for your advice.

You can scrape coraline algae off of acrylic with a plastic scraper. Kent makes a good one, or you could also grab one made by Clear4life, and acrylic tank maker. They are about $2 each, and you can buy them at many lfs's that sell Clear4life tanks.

However, I'd buy a glass tank. There's nothing worse than seeing scratches in your tank that I guarantee will appear sooner or later.

I would go glass too.

I am not sure what kind of prices Jeff's Exotics has up there but he is very good on corals and fish. I know he doesn't keep alot in stock but he said the place that builds tanks is local and they go pic them up. So I would guess you could check with Jeff's or try to find the place that builds them...

Jeff seems to be a good guy, I spoke to him the last time I was there. Worth the drive from here (2 hours)

I know acrylic is lighter but if I had it to do again I would have gotten 180 glass. As careful as I am, I have some scratches and have to be SO careful when cleaning.

Try Aquarium Center on In the San Fernando Valley on Ventura between Van Nuys and Hazeltine. There is a store on the south side of the street also.

Underwater Depot in Shrerman Oaks, specializes in custom orders, for Glass or Acrylic. You might want to give them a call. It's a small store, but they will set you up any way you would like, and are pretty reasonable.

I have a 125gallon TruVu acrylic. I bought it used with a stand for $100. Has a few scratches when I picked it up, but when filled with water, LR, fish and corals you don't really noticw the scratches. I scrub my tank, not scrape, I use a white acrylic rubbing pad. It doesn't scratch and cleans well. I have heard that peeps get sand on them and then scratch the crap outta the acrylic, acrylic isn't that bad, I just wish I woulda bought a little smaller tank.
