You will have some stabilizing problems until organics build to a level to start "skimming". Maybe a week or so. Adjust it now so that the top bubble layer is just below the waste canister.

You can also try to adjust the air bubble input, this helps out quite a bit.

Adding Iodine will almost certainly start skimming for you.

Good Luck~!

TampaReefer,

Thanks for the response. I apologize for not explaining better the first time, I get many bubbles - my problem is with the water level itself. It won't remain constant. Any ideas on that one?

Anybody else?

Thanks again.

What am I doing wrong? I have a "traditional" style airstone driven 4' skimmer. I hooked up a mag 7 for the high input and allow the skimmer to drain naturally via gravity back to the sump. Bottom of skimmer and sump about the same height.

The problem is, I can't get the water level to stabilize. Either my water/buble level continues to rise or drop.

Help anyone.

Thanks.

Exactly, to regulate you must have an ample pump, very important.

How tall is the skimmer? What size pump do you use?

As tampa stated, the water level should stabilize when the organics coat the inside of the skimmer and all the oils/ other contaminants from the manufacuring process wash off the skimmer. I was so dissapointed with my latest skimmer at first because the thing wouldn't skim for like 48 hours and then BAM! it started skimming like there was no tomorrow! Now it cranks.

Thanks guys.

It seems that my water level is stabilizing. However, I had to cut back on my pump in order to make it work as well as control the out flow.

TampaReefer,
My 4' skimmer is driven by a Mag 7.

Thanks again.
