How sad a sight it is to view my new 72 gallon bowfront sitting empty on the floor. I'm currently building the stand and hood, and kicking around what I want to do for lighting.

The tank is 48" wide. I'm debating whether or not to go all PCs, or MH/PC. Anyone have any experience with using combos of the two. I was thinking one 175W MH (maybe 250W) on the left side of the tank, with 2 55W PCs on the right. I have a 96W PC I'm stealing off my other tank and I was thinking of putting an actinic bulb in it.

I have a few SPS in my tank now, but mostly softies (using PC lighting).

Cost is definitely a factor, as is running cost. I live in CA, where electricity isn't exactly cheap anymore. I've gotten my previous PCs from ahsupply.com, and been really happy with them. But I've never done MH before. Anything I should watch out for?

Thanks,

I would put a single 250 MH in the center and build around its output. I would not enclose th top at all as heat rises and if you kep your MH and PCs 10 inches of the water you will have little evaporation and no noticible temp change. Enclosing the top always increases the water temp and I do not trust fans with my inhabitants lives.
