Some kind of tentacled things in my tank...need ID help.

I cannot see the central part that the tentacles originate from...it's always buried in rock. The tentacles are a dull yellow in color, with blackdark red bands on them. There are about 15 tentacles to the thing, and they sweep around rather fast. There are maybe 5 really long tentacles, while near the 'mouth' or whatever they come from, there are about 10 shorter ones.

I have about 3-4 of these in my tank...can anyone shed some light on this mystery? I don't think they harm anything...I have one on my christmas tree rock and one in my green star polyps, and nothing has disappeared from the surrounding areas...

They sound to my like spaghetti worms. A tube like creature that stays under the sand, usually, with multiple tenticals sticking out. Their good for your tank.

Oh, so that's what spaghetti worms look like, then? Cool...I'd read of them, described on IPSF's web site long ago, but had never seen a picture of them. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a ball of yarn worm, Timarete sp. Have a look at page 141 of the new book Invertebrates: A Quick Reference Guide. On the following page you can see spaghetti worms for comparison. They are detritivores- harmless.
