I'm starting to get a red slime algae problem. I do have some slime remover medicine, but i'm afraid that it would kill some of the symbiotic algae in my colt, candycane, zoos and mushrooms.
So i don't really want to use it.

Also, there have been several forums statingthat red algae will grow in slower areas of current. Right now there isn't much current in the water. I have a Maxi-Jet 1200 (on my skimmer) and a Penguin that gives off about 170 gallons per hour.

I'm thinking about getting 2 Maxi-jets 600s (160 an hour). Would that be enough current to fight the cyano break out or should i try getting rid of it a different way?

hemm.. I also found out that will more likely to grow in slow water movement area. I'm not sure what's the requarement are but just make it as strong as posible and won't be too strong for aqua life inside. :>
Last time I put a strong pump inside and as well suck them out of the tank as much as posible. It works for me. I also heard that they feed on nitrate. :\
