A while ago I asked you guys how to get rid of aiptasia. Sounded like Kalk paste or boiling water. The boiling water didn't work, and killed the coraline algae that it also hit. Well then I tried boiling the water and adding the kalk. I then sucked it up in a syringe and applied it to the aiptasia. They would withdraw in their hole and I sealed their hole with the paste. The hot paste congealed really quickly on the holes. Its been almost 2 weeks...and whalla!!no sign of them!!

Kalk works very nicely!

As for peppermint shrimp - well it would be a lot of work for me to get one and very expensive (potentially several thousand dollars for the first one). They're not on the list for legal import into New Zealand. I had considered seeking approval to import these, but since Kalk works just fine, I'm not going to bother.

It's not legal to import aptasia either - not that the law helps much

The copperband butterfly did the number in mine. The only drawback so far is that it pestered my large tube worm. I guess they can be tough to get to eat so i just watched them in the LFS till I found a good eater and now he eats brine and mysis shrimp and aiptasia too...
