Honey, you need a doctor.

Sorry, I don't know what that might be. You'll get plenty of replies from people that might though.

They may want som info though - how long have you had the tank, how long were the corals in your tank, what are the parameters of the tank, etc.

Welcome to the board. Good luck!

It's a Xenomorph! Where are the colonial marines when you need them?

I hope someone with an advanced degree can tell us what this really is and how to avoid it, because I'm gonna be having nightmares until then...

That looks like a species of boring clam. It was living inside the dead CaCO3 part of the coral most likely. These kinds of clams can be found bored into dead coral skeletons, live rock, etc.

My guess is that is not what killed your coral.

That's a barnacle. See Invertebrates: A Quick Reference Guide, page 161. It is a Pyrgomatid barnacle. Harmless. The coral died of something, but the barnacle had nothing to do with it.

The poster asked Dr Ron this same question on his forum, Dr Ron said it looked like a burrowing clam to him. He also stated that they are harmless.
