I used aragonite in my refugium, but I cannot afford to use that in the main tank and South Down is not available where I am. I will instead be going with either pink Samosa (garden centers carry it, though I have heard rumors that it can leave your water with a permanent pinkish tinge though I do not know if it is true.) Or, more likely go with dolomite (the same used for your lawn.) You just have to make sure that it is not treated with any chemicals. Mighty White seems to be good, and Dr.Ron seems to think that it should be O.K. A web site with info on Mighty Whites' contents can be found at http://www-app2.wa.gov/agr/prodinfo.asp?pname=31010 This site gives its composition. The breakdown of particle size is as follows :
100% passing 10 mesh
86% passing 20 mesh
69% passing 40 mesh
62% passing 60 mesh
46% passing 100 mesh
Which seems O.K. for a DSB. Add to that a 50 lb bag of it is $4 Canadian and I would say it is a deal. If you cannot get Mighty White, look at the guaranteed composition and make sure its mostly Magnesium Carbonate and Calcium Carbonate. Make sure it is not treated and finally, take a sample it, dunk it in saltwater, wait 30 minutes, and measure the pH. If the pH goes up it has has kalk in it. if it is the same, then it's good to go.
What can I say, it's all second-hand knowledge, I will be trying it, and hopefully it helps you.
