Looking for a quiet submersible pump

I currently have a Mag7 pump submersed in my sump and use PVC for my return line. Noise is incredible and it makes it difficult even to sleep.

I have heard if I changed the return line to flexible tubing that this will cut down on the noise, but I am thinking it won't be enough.

I am running a 90G and would like to keep the same flow that my MAG7 has maintained.

So any good suggestions on a very quiet submersible pump?

Reeffreak, did you put the little pad on the bottom of the pump? I myself have a mag12 and can't hardly hear it run with the cabinet doors closed. I also put a half clamp on the back to hold the pvc pipe from vibrating. Have you cleaned the pump, soaked it in vinager over night, to rid all the calcium deposits. I have found that when my pump gets a lot of calcium build up on it, it tends to make more noise. Hope all this helps.

Well the pump is only 3 months old so I don't think that there would alot of Ca deposits.

The pad is an interesting idea. What type of material are you using? The choices are limited since it is submersed.

Now I think that most of the noise is coming from the PVC pipe rattling. What is a half-clamp?

The pad that I have came with the pump. It just sticks on the bottom of the pump. It has been stuck on the pump for about a year in the water, and never came off. The half clamp can be found in the plumbing section of your local hardware store. The clamp looks like a C, with a hole to put a screw in. I screwed mine into the back of the stand. Have one on the return, and the overflow line.

3 MONTHS, not that long. I have to soak mine about every 2 months, and even at that they look covered big time with calcium. My calcium is at 440ppm, alk., 3.0meq. You should take that baby apart and look at the magenet.
