I had 2, and they both eat nothing. Algea or flakes, NOTHING. Needless to say both died. You are rolling the dice on getting one of these fish. I have read others say the same as me.

I've had the same experience. Mine prefers spirulina flake and frozen mysis to anything else but will take many other things as well. I started him on frozen brine. Many others have had them refuse foods and starve to death. I started mine about 30 days before the the microalgae supply ran out and it was reluctant to begin with but once they figure out it's good eating they can stay really fat. If you watch them closely you will see them pick pods off the glass whne they can find them. I read a study once that said the wild-caught gut content was only about 50% algae so they do take other things than algae naturally.

I have one that is quite healthy. He intially started eating my hair algae but he now eats almost anything - brine shrimp, formula 1, and algae. He still eats hair algae from time to time but spends most of his day picking at the live rock and glass.

Mine started out only eating algae at first, but pretty soon he got tired of seeing the other fish gobble up all the food at feeding time. He would taste the food at first and then spit it out. Then he started eating it. Now he races through the tank trying to get as much as possible. Only eats pellet food, though. No meaty stuff.
