HELLO ALL,
I ALSO HAVE A 35 GALLON HEX WITH OUT OF CONTROL GREEN HAIR ALGAE. I AM TRYING TO USE MEXICAN TURBO SNAILS WHICH SHOULD REALLY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WHENEVER I ADD THEM, THEY IMMEDIATELY GO TO WORK BUT AFTER ONE DAY THEY GET VERY LETHARGIC AND STOP EATING AND THEN THEY STAY IN ONE PLACE FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEN THEY DIE. ANYWAY, I AM MORE IMMEDIATELY CONCERNED WITH THE ALGAE PROBLEM SO ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED
THANK YOU MARK

Mark,

You'll need to tell us more about your tank. You could be putting phosphates in your tank by using tap water, you could be overstocked, who knows?

Tell us your filtration, maintenance schedule, feeding schedule, numbers and types of inhabitants, water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, phosphate, and temp), type of salt and type of mix/make up water. Then maybe someone could offer some help.

Kevin

P.S. - I'd be worried about snails that always die - something is wrong.

I agree that the snails dropping off is a clear indication that some thing is set up wrong. But with out more info as Kevin stated it is impossible to help. How old is your system, sounds like a very new tank to me.

Also remember that snails are fairly delicate, so make sure you aclimate them slowly. I learned this lesson myself early on. My first batch of snails did the same thing. Now I drip aclimate them, and have not lost any more. HTH
