Why would all of my other corals be flourishing, and my green open brain be dying? The skeleton is becoming exposed and the tissue is shrinking. I have 4X96PC, 125g, skimmer, sump, 200+#Lr, DSB. I have had this coral for over 6months with no problems. Any ideas?

I tried feeding it brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, silversides, krill, prawn eggs, almost everything. I never saw it eat. I was told that they are mostly photosynthetic and did not require regular feedings of meat. What kind of animals predate on open brains?

Depending on what type of open brain you have, I couldn't be sure if it was mostly photosynthetic, but if it's got a mouth it cna eat and should be fed. You've got me wondering if 4x96w PC lighting is enough. I don't have PCs myself, but my friend does and he mentioned that his lost their intensity pretty quickly, as in less than a year. Could that be a factor? Does the coral look bleached at all? Skeleton exposure is never a good thing. What other corals do you have?

Where there is tissue the coral is a vibrant green color, and some parts glow purple under the actintic lighting. The tissue is coming off of the skeleton and I fear that it may be too late for this coral. Yes the lights just became 4.5 months old. I have a gorgonian, different varieties of mushrooms, a torch, green star polyps, yellow polyps, a pipeorgan coral, and a galaxea. I dose Kent two part every other day, and Coral vital everyother day that IM not using the two part. I add iodine monthly.

I found the culprit. My Ebili pygmy angel, who was well behaved for several months decided it was hungry. It is the one eating the brain. I was told there was a 50/50 chance of it not eating. I took the glass is half full approach. The fish was in a viewing tank with mushrooms and a torch. It was behaved in there and it was in my aquarium too. I would urge everyone to never take the change that it will turn out for the best. I made a mistake and I suck. The tissue is almost all gone on one part. The other two parts have over 75% of the tissue left. Should I take it out, or leave it in there?

I would remove the fish and nurse the coral back to health. If that is not an option you must move the coral.

Good luck,

I don't think I can catch the fish. The coral is what I belive beyond repair.
