Bacterial Film on water surface???

Do you utilize a surface skimmer with your Bakpak?

A surface skimmer will greatly reduce surface bacteria. If you direct a powerhead toward the surface skimmer it will increase the amount removed. But if you don't want a surface skimmer for whatever reason,aggrevate the surface with your PH's.

I have the skimmer box also. I think I may have found the problem. I added a wave maker power bar. It turns the pumps on and off and i think I may have had them set to long. On too long then off too long. it is a little better since I shortened the run time. On and off longer which means more on time overall... I will give it a couple days then see what happens.

I know there is always a bacterial film on tanks. My understanding is that it is dead bacteria that floats to the top. Water movement is supposed to help keep it from stopping o2 exchange? The reason I ask is that I have always had a little but it appears that the last week I have had more than usual. Looking back the only thing different was my CPR stopped working for an afternoon. It was about 8 hours before I got it working again. Other than that I have been adding some newly hatched brine shrimp from a hatchery. (cheapo commercial one) These are the only changes eveything look well, best it has looked. I am going to run all the water tests today to see if there are any changes there. Things have been stable for about 6 months since my move. One year total. 40 gallon, two powerheads and a CPR. If you know of anything I would be interested to hear.
