I just noticed that when I stuck my hand in my sump I got an electric shock... a very slight one that was coming up by my finger nails. Not the first time I have felt it, but the first time I have had to deal with it on my own tank.

I installed a titanium grounding probe until I decide what to do. I am fairly sure I know the pump that is causing the problem, a recently aquired pump that I am skeptical is not safe for aquarium use.

Question: Do I keep using the pump and the titanium grounding probe without having a problem?

Or... Do I change the pump as soon as possible?

Thanks!

You get a GFCI outlet or breaker installed immediately...

Unless you like the tingly feeling....

Harrison,

Um, I wouldn't bash you too hard for telling MediaOne that he needs to remove the pump in some sarcastic way, like "Well, you could always leave it and impress your friends by lighting a lightbulb in your hand while touching the sump, course I am sure you wouldn't mind lateral line erosion in your fish, not to mention poor coral health and a host of other 'unexplainable' problems."

I also think you mean onery:

or·ner·y (ôrn-r)
adj. or·ner·i·er, or·ner·i·est
Mean-spirited, disagreeable, and contrary in disposition; cantankerous

I think the word you used would be caught by most 'family filters'!

BTW I was looking at your site tonight and it looks GREAT! In your question "CAPNELLA OR NEPTHEA???" I vote Capnella. Looks just like a specimine I have. How many clams do you have? Have you had good lusk w/ them? Also, I would love to get a peek at the schematics for your hood as I will be making one very similar to yours and need some help making it work.

I would be ornery and say this is a no brainer, but then Ernie will get all bent cause I am not playing nice again, so...

GFCI, change the pump, and leave in the probe.

Hey Ernie,

I get both ornry and hornry at times...

I think capnella is what I have deducted so far but not too many people have mentioned it. Thanks for the words about the website. I have alot more to add but I can get a bit wordy at times. I have 5 clams right now and they seem to be doing pretty well. They move around alot but they are all opened up and look healthy they are hard to get good pics of though. Guess it is because of their colors.

As far as the hood goes, I do most of my wood work planning in my head and figure things out as they go. I will be glad to take pictures and send you measurements of anything you need. I have seen several different canopies but I really like the way the top opens up on this one. It gives you great access and you don't have to jiggle your lights around. Let me know if your interested and I will send you the rest of the pics I have...

I'll try to stop bagging on you so much. I don't get called a know it all tree hugger very often...Well, at least not a tree hugger. hahah

Graham,

I meant that it is good to hear that the coral is doing well, not that HARRISON is feeling randy

How are the mushrooms and the xenia?

Little Ernie is doing fine. Any news on getting folks together for a knoxville area reef keepers' club?

Take care,
Ernie
