What type of coral can I host in this tank? I have about 10 pounds of live rock which I plan to double this weekend. I have 2 perc clowns and a coral beauty and an aneome.

My lights consist of 2 55 watt power compacts. 1 10,000K and 1 6,500 Actinic Blue. Im just now starting to reef as I have been doing FOWLR. I had an outbreak of that brown algae a few weeks back but things have settled down. I think it was due to over feeding and too much iodine. All my levels are ok (Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrits, Calcium, and PH). SG is 1.023 and temp is around 79 degrees.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

SPS are out. Aside from that, just about any mushrooms or softies should be fine. You could also get away with most LPS's.

i run the exact same setup on my 37 gallon tank 2x55 watts power compacts 110 watts total one blue one white bulb

i have the following 1 toadstool leather a finger leather purple shrooms green shrooms and i recently added some brown zoo polyps and yellow polyps

i also have an cnenome which is currently hosting a porcelin crab

the mushrooms like it lower in the tank for some reason I had them higher and they were doing so so When i moved them down to the substrate they opened twice as far and are starting to spread out

i would think that any soft coral will work with this lighting and I've been told that an open brain would be no problem

glad to see another person with what is considered a small tank by most we are starting to grow in number

I have a 29 with JBJ 55watt PC's. I have a suncoral, trumpet(candycane) coral, several mushrooms, a vase sponge, and a bubble anemone. All are doing great. I have looked into what I can keep, meaning where is the cutoff for this lighting system, and have found that all my research tells me you can keep just about anything. But its all about placement in the tank.

My aquascape is in the middle/back of the tank stacked to the top, I dont scrape the back glass, as its quickly filling with coraline, but I could get to it easily. With a 29 I feel this is the best scape to have to maximize swimming room for my fish, all around and through the reef, and allows you to have points right on top of the rocks directly under your lights to place the very light hungry corals.

If this is the system you have(JBJ), I would suggest getting your own glass hood cut. This system is really compact, and a standard top with the black plastic strip down the middle caused a band of light to be blocked. I had two strips of glass cut to allow the lights to sit right in the middle of the tank and have no blockage at all, I really notice a difference in intensity.

Good luck,

I've got a 2x65W PC + 40W NO on top of a 37 gal tank (30" long, 13" wide, 23" deep), so we're pretty close. Here's what I've been successfully keeping:
mushrooms, polyps, xenia, star polyps
colt coral, toadstool leather, green toadstool
green open brain coral (on the substrate), green bubble coral
montipora digitata--maybe the hardiest of SPS corals, but it's kept about 8" from the surface.

That setup should be plenty for softies and some LPS corals. Stick with hardy stuff until the tank matures a little (6 months or so)
Pics are on my webpage.

Thanks for your responses. I added about 15 more pounds of live rock yesturday. I plan on getting some mushrooms to start off with this weekend. I just hope my coral beauity doesn't nip at them since he does nip at my live rock.. I guess we will find out
