I was skimmerless and have to admit the coral seem to love it (soft corals). The only problem I really had was the proliferation of macro algae. I got tired of harvesting it. It just kept growing. I got lazy and decided to see what would happen if I allow it to die back on its own. Big trouble!! micro algae, diatom, yellowing water. It took months to fix, I had to turn my skimmer back on. Its been a few years since then,Caulerpa did not return. One note is I did not have a large clean-up crew then(yellow tang and turbo and astrea snails) (I now have hermits also they love caulerpa).
