I currently have 2 65k's and was thinking of going to 10k's. I was wondering if you thought I should go to a higher kelvin. I currently have more softies than anything, but when I switch to my 125 (in 2 weeks), I want to house more. I don't like the yellow from the 65k's, need something a lil' whiter.
The ballast I have is a PFO 2x250w MH ballast from Marine Depot. I also run 2 55w pc actnics.

With the 2 x 55 wt actincs you could easily get by with 10k not 12k. Without you would probably want the 12k though.

There is a thread going on right now at reefcentral about how the 12k's look SO dim esp the 250 watts but even the 400's, they were sayin your best bet is to stick with the 6500k Iwaski's with actinic's because the Iwaski's both look the brightest and have the best PAR etc

Too late. I picked up 2 12k's from Marine Depot on my lunch today. I will see how they look. Maybe I will swap out my 55w pc's with 10k's to brighten it up a bit.

Thanks though!!!

Do you have any pics you can post? You'll have to post whether you think it is dimmer or not and which bulb you like the best

I will take some pics with my digital when they are installed. Can you send me a link to that thread you saw on RC? Thanks!!! You would think getting a higher kelvin light it would be brighter. Like I said I have 2 65k's, but I don't get the greens or blues out of the corals. Mainly I get browns. My GSP's are an awesome green, under any light, but my green sinularia (SP?) is a brownish color instead of the green it was in the LFS tank.

If you want to check the tank out here are some pics...
