I am gonna add a small ref. to my 55gal tank and i am wondering if you can use an aquarium flouresent light for it? I has red and blue light spectrum. Will the red cause problems since i will be just growing macro algae? or should i go with a light that has the daylight and actinic colors to it?
or does it even matter?

Thanks in advanced

It really doesn't matter - you don't need light for a refugium, per se.

However, that being said, you mention growing macroalgae in your refugium. You'll find macroalgae likes the same lighting that corals do, ie. daylight bulbs and/or actinic supplementation. The stronger the lighting, the more successful you'll be with the macroalgae.
