Ok I've read up this guy of course, he's about 2.5" right now. Where should I place him in the tank? He's rather brown so I figured maybe lower in the tank would be best. The problem is my Clarki clown likes to stir up the sand down there.
How long till he attaches himself? He's been in there for a day and a half and only opens up just a little. Should I try a spot with less light or just chill out and stop worrying?

The sally lightfoot keeps nocking him over, so I keep standing him back up, over and over again. Any general adice would be appreciated.
Oh, I saw the MOST INCREDIBLE MAXIMA at the store today. I mean I can't believe the blue on this animal, it was beautiful!! I've seen maximas in the store quite a bit, but this individual was the most amazing I have ever seen. Too bad he was $170!!! I can't wait to get a little one!

Hi Jim,

Mine is on the sand. I had him on the rocks at one point but he jumped off. He likes it up near the front glass. He's turned a very nice purple.

He might be closed up due to all the movement. If the sally knocks him over, leave him be for a while and see if he rights himself. Mine was on his side the other day and I actually saw an emerald crab dig underneath him and hoist him back upright.

You might try placing some small rocks on either side of him to keep him propped up. If the sally lightfoot keeps knocking him over it may cause enough stress to be fatal.

Mine is midway it up with moderate flow. He is currently being shaded occasionally by a leather coral I have that opens up wide but doesn't seem to mind. Since I got him a month ago (2.5 ") he has grown about 20%. You don't have to have intense lighting like maximas. Genarally they adjust themselves to lighting so if he is partially open all the time, it might be too bright, try lowering him a little , he might have to open wider to get more light!

T. Squamosa like to be on the sand. you can pushed him 1/3 down on the sand. This should keep his mantel oriented to the light. He will just move to the position he like. They have very minimal attachment and can get torn off easy, thus don't put him on the rock.

I have mine on the sand bottom as well and it seems pretty happy there. Mine changed colors after being in my tank for the last 2 months. It was a yellowish brown when I got him from Jeff's and now it's turning more of a green with a blue/purple lip. It's also opening up a lot more then when I first got it. Before it would only open the mantle to the shell and now it extends the mantle out pass the shell about 1/2". What lighting do you guys put it under? I only have 4-55w pc's and it seems very happy with that setup.
Here is a pic of it:
