Do any of you have a refugium that's next to your tank that is plumbed in? I'd like to set up my refugium right next to my 75 gallon, that way I can see what's going on in there at all times. Is it as simple as getting identical pumps for each tank and plumbing it that way? Any experiences or advice would be appreciated.

Peace,

Chip

Or, you can make your refugium water level higher than the main 75G. Drill a hole on the side of the refugium and let the gravity do it's work. Make sure the hole is at least 1" diameter.

In a back issue of Marine Aquarium Quarterly I had they desribed one way to do a side by side setup like that using basically a double overflow type system. You would have an overflow/bulkhead from the refugium tank flowing into the main tank. Another overflow/bulkhead fom the main tank going to your sump/return pump and then returning the water to the refugium tank. They also went inot the other configuration wuch as above or below main tank. HTH.

I like danmhippo method. Raise the refugium so the water level is several inches above the display tank. Put a 1.5" bulkhead on the refugium near the surface and attach enough hose to reach the display tank. Put a really small powerhead in the display tank with the output going into a tube that reaches out of the tank and into the refugium. I agree, refugiums are interesting to peer into.

Fwiw,
I have a side-by-side refugium on my tank where a pump brings water up to the fuge and it returns back to the tank by gravity via a bulkhead. Here is how it looks:

Hi Marillion. Here is my 50 gallon reef with a perfecto 20 extra high refugium next to it. Its gravity return. The fauna growth is spectacular. Plus it adds a calm view next to a contrasting high current sps reeftank.
