Light years? Hmm... I have PCs, and I like them, but "Light years?" Nah! Mac or PC? Ford of Chevy? PC or VHO? It's really a matter of preference. Don't get duped into buying something simply because the LFS stocks it on their shelves (it's always cheaper mail order anyways).
Take a look at both and pick the one you like. They'll both do an adequate job for softies and LPS corals.

Take a normal fluorescent bulb. Bend it into an U shape. Now you've got a compact fluorescent bulb.
In all seriousness, there are differences in efficiency. T-12 bulbs are the most inefficient, followed by T-8 bulbs, with T-5 bulbs (power compacts) being the most efficient (lux/watt). The differences are significant, but not enormous. "Light years ahead" is inappropriate to describe the differences.
