Ok got the RO H2O and salt being mixed in a trash can with a powerhead and heater. Now do I need to add a PH buffer and supplements (Plan on using Seachem reef pack)? Or just put the H2O and LR in the tank and start cycling. John

You do not need to add supplements until your tank has cycled, and then you need to test your water to see if you need to add any supplements, and then you test every once and a while until you figure out the correct amount to add. It is just as bad to have too much of something as it is to have too little of something.

I wouldn't add anything to the water either. Most salt mixes these days have everything you need in them. Just keep dosing some sort of calcium (get a reactor) such as kalkwasser or those 2-part solutions.

Most of the time companies try to sell additives that you don't really need -- there aren't any "magic potions."

See ya,
