Hi,all, haven't posted in a while, been lurking though, have a question...last night when the lights were out,I was looking around the tank with a flashlight, and my cynarina had his typical tentacled look, except for the fact that with his polyp deflated,it was visible that he has sort of a tear at the attachment point of flesh to rock,(maybe about 3/4 of an inch tear).Upon closer inspection, there appeared to be some sort of minute spiral things protruding out of the "wound?".I don't have access to a digital camera right this second, but does anyone have any ideas,or seen this?Today it is well inflated, has always been since I got him, except for a little pinched spot in the area of the problem.Anybody got any ideas?my tank water tests perfect,no changes in the last month to speak of...help!

Okay,it is day two, this guy is still fully expanded, showing tenacles around the mouth, every indication is that it is doing well, except that one side of the polyp is really pinched up...what should I do about this tear?will it heal itself,or should I take some action?I'm a little concerned at this point...anyone?

Dose some Lugol's or iodine to keep infection at bay. Do the spiral things look like small fanworm's or vermitid snails? If your coral grew over these guys, they may grow right through it. My vermitid snails grow right through ny xenia's stalks. However,my xenia does not appear to be damaged in any way.

I also think that you should wakeup at about 3-4 A.M. and look for whatever is causing this by flashlight.

It doesn't appear to be any type of animal, more a bit of torn flesh unravelling.Do you mean lugols should be used in the tank,or in a seperate tank?I don't think anything has attacked it,(to the best of my knowledge)but I do have a hitch hiker crab that has been in the tank since setup that I can't even begin to identify. So far he hasn't caused any trouble, but keeps getting bigger.I very rarely see him at all.Idon't really know if he could be the problem because he hasn't bothered any thing else.Maybe I should try to catch him,but I kind of like him.

I guess I'm now on my way to the hitchhiker forum. Joey
