Dual 400W MH on 58Gal reef.....

No supplimental, which bulbs would be better for SPS/Clam, Ushio 10K's or Radium 20K's?

How blue are the radiums? How white are the Ushio's? I'm using 10K Blueline now (very blue), want to switch for something better.

Don't have a pic, but the 20K is quite blue.

BTW, that is some heavy duty lighting on the 58G. I have 150G with only dual 400W 20K.

Yeah, It's pretty beefy. I should be able to keep stuff on all levels of the tank. I've got all the plumbing in my basement. 150G sump, and a 50G refugium. 4* the water volume in the basement keeps the water temp at 78, thats without any fans in the canopy. I hope it works out well. Now I just need to find the right bulbs, or combination.
I'm very disappointed in the blueline's, I have both "nipple up", one will burn white one day and blue the next, the other will only burn blue.

Any other opinions?

I don't know what you plan on keeping, but that is a ton of light!

I have 3x 400w Iwasakis over my 6' long 225, and I couldn't find a place with enough cover to keep alot of LPS (blastomussa and euphylia fried). Even some SPS never look right. They always look sort of pale and washed out. In hind sight, I would not have used so much light.

As for your bulb choice, I would say with that much light, you will have plenty of PAR no matter which bulb you choose, so it comes down to personal preference. If found bluelines to be a little too blue for my taste, and thought they looked similar to the radiums. I like the look of my unsupplemented Iwasakis (DL version, almost as white as 10k). I will probably run Ushios or Hamiltons next just for a crisper white.

Also, I had the same problem with the bluelines, and that was on top of their horrible lack of intensity.
