And any view on compatability with cleaner/fire/peppermint shrimps and emerald crabs as well as jawfish?

Thanks for the prompt response. I'm personally looking forward to getting one.

Hi:
also check out FFExpress today in the collectors corner. They claim to have a dwarf golden moray. The photo they show looks like a G milaris, but the photo also states that each animal looks different.
Its an 800 number anyway

I think what FFexpress has is a Gymnothorax miliaris. These get big, and not to be confused with Golden Dwarfs (G.melatremus). Call them. If they give you the "I don't know what species" answer, it's safer to pass on the purchase.

If you're getting an eel, consider your tank must be covered. Eels have a knack of finding their way onto carpets.

I concurr. If it ain't Gymnothorax melatremus, don't put it into your reef. So far, Marine Center is the only place I can find it.

It is indeed the milliaris although the initial salewoman adamantly claimed it was a "dwarf golden moray". Sort of scary considering I've ordered from them and been quite pleased. The "supervisor" was knowledgable and set it straight.

"Call them". Get in on their waiting list. They have one about every 3-4 months. The last time they had it was in Mid December. Only one came in and was quickly taken (hehehe.........guess who?)

These moray are very docile. I have 2 currently, one is 1 month and the other is about 6 months. I have only seen it feed on large amphipods and frozen mysis scented with selcon. They also relishes on cracked clam meat. I haven't seen it remotely interested in anything else larger. I have black neon goby, buch of cleaner shrimps, clown goby, snails being the smallest critters in my tank and they are not interested in them.

Only time will tell if they will ever become larger. Marine center has told me that this is pretty much the largest they will ever get (10" and about "papermate pen" thick). I should be able to know by mid year as they approaches 1 year mark in my tank.
