Hello Reefs.

I was wondering;

1. Does anyone test for Mg?
2. How many ppm Mg is best?
3. Has anyone found higher Mg = higher Ca?

thanks

Speck,
I test for Magnesium. The concentration should be kept between 1300 and 1500 ppm, and you do need the proper Mg level to maintain proper calcium and alkalinity. It says as much on the Salifert test kit instructions. I find my Mg level drops quite frequently.

Carpentersreef;
Thanks, somthing I read recently left me with that impression, but I wanted some confirmation from an actual reefkeeper

What do you use to bring your Mg up?

I use Reefpure Concentrated Magnesium Supplement. My system has a CA reactor and I have SPS and clams that show constant signs of growth. My CA stays between 480 and 500 ppm.

Is this something that needs to be supplemented, or will regular water changes take care of the reef requirements?

Peace,

Chip
