I never have a coralline covered tank?

I had my reef tank set up as fish only tank for a year prior to finally upgrading the lighting and turning into a proper reef. I never dosed calcium, and never did a PH test. The only thing I did was so waterchanges with RO water. Coraline growth was tremendous within a few months of being set up. Now I dose of cousrse, but I never did before and it didn't affect the coraline growth.

Jim, what volume and intervals did you perform water changes? The reason I ask is that the calcium needed for the coralline must come from somewhere.

All of my tank that I have had and now have a 180 and it is full of coralline.

I use NSW, 400 watt MH (10000K and 6500K) and RO/DI water. I have never used Kalk. I can not get my Alk over 8.6dKh but my ca ranges from 420ppm to 450ppm. I use a ca reactor.
