hey

I'm gonna start catching my own fish, so I'm asking if anyone knows where I can buy those professional clear nets. I bought one years ago but cant remember the name of the company. I think it was in north carolina.
thanks!

Sounds about as easy as catching your dog that got out. But it does sound like fun. Let us know how you do.

I used to catch fish with pro nets, and sell them to my lfs. NOW I have more of a heart and can't do that to those poor fish

I remember the easiest fishes to catch were the puffers and box fish, and the hardest is tangs.

Are there restrictions to doing this in your area?

Do you have to have some kind of license?

I just got back from the pan handle in Florida and decided while I was down their to catch some fish for myself and a friend who is starting a tank. I chased a tang around for an hour before nabbing the thing just to see him get out as I was moving closer to shore to put him in my collector net(A wave hit me and sent him out). I did catch him back in about 5 minutes so I wasn't to mad. I also collected about 20 blue damsels and some sargent majors. I snagged some baby fish as well. They are doing great! they eat right out of my dropper. One baby is a puffer the size of a dime. The other two are wrasses and two more are angels. I love the experience of the challenge more than anything. I caught mine just using two nets bought at wal-mart.

Try it a couple times and you will apprecitate the cost of a net cost fish.
I chased a french angel for almost an hour before I caught him. The $30 the LFS wants seems pretty cheap to me.

I catch mine during low tide. I have caught blennies, a pair of funky looking fish, 3 urchins, 1 shrimp, 2 puffers, 1 sea fan, 2 conch, dozens of snails, 3 huge hermits, some crabs, bristle worms & 1 scallop. It's really a pleasure of it's own.

Of course, I live in South East Asia where the sun shines all year round.
