I need to replace my power compact lights. My question is which light is best for a reef tank, 10000k or 6700. What is the difference between the two lights? Thanks

I have compacts on my 18 gallon reef tank. There are two 32 watt 50/50 attached to the good. I really like the 50/50's because you don't see a line where the blue and white bulb are. They really blend together well when they are that close together. I did have is setup as one lamp being a acintic and the other a 10k daylight, but it just looked kind of weird to me. The back of the tank was blue while the front was white.

hi.
The difference between the light are the color temperature. Depends on what you keep, it does not matter much to them. The color temperature choice is more of a matter of personal preference than anything else. The higher the number, the bluer things will appear. The closer to 5500K (and CRI->100), the brighter things will appear to our eye.

10 K PC look kind of yellow to me, the 50/50 10K/actinic has a clean, slighlty blue appererance that gives off a blue aura that is sure to impress friends and neighbors. In addition, the actinic will help to boost algae/coral growth.

Seven Ephors, doesn't the higher 10k also go deeper in the tank so if you had a higher tank depth the more blue 10k would be better, also deeper water inverts would like it more? Just ran across this while researching MH's hight above surface.
