the best way to avert disaster is to turn off the system and let the water drain down...when the water has drained from the return and the overflow and the siphon of the return has been broken causing no more backflow, mark the water level in the sump and keep it only filled to that level...that way,in the event of a power outage, the backflow will not overflow thw sump...your sump should not be completely full, but should have a bit of room for excess drainage to not flood if your pump goes off...I learned this the hard way as a newbie a while back
OK, so I finally set up my 92 gallon bow front from AGA. I put in a 20 Gallon sump with a MAD drive 1200 for a return pump. This is my first attempt at a sump so I am really nervous about leaving this thing alone. I was wondering if anyone had any general tips for me, like stuff to watch for or ways to prevent some kind of disaster. It seems to be leak proof so far but what else can go wrong? Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks,
I just wanted to add that I put a ball valve at on the return side of the pump. Is it OK to close the valve a little to regulate water pressure or will this have adverse affects on the pump??
